The Independence of the Didache

There is only one instance in which sayings quoted in the Didache are certainly drawn from written gospels: Didache 1:3–5. This passage is a compilation of sayings from the Sermon on the Mount, but with distinct features of harmonization of the texts of Matthew and Luke. It is an interpolation that must have been made after the middle of the 2nd century and cannot, therefore, be used as evidence for the original compiler’s familiarity with written gospels.
